This painting was inspired by a trip to Malta where I visited several very ancient megalithic temples including Hagar Qim. As the strong, bleaching light of the day moved over the site it was easy to see the stones as individual characters with strange magical powers and great strength. I have used a red pigment to represent life force and heat and I have scratched the course of stars onto the indigo areas (like I have seen in in time-lapse astrophotography )which represent to me the turning of our world through time.
