The steep mountainside above Ponte di Nava, on the border of Liguria and Piedmont, is covered with trees and a small road twists and climbs up through these woods which are noisy with nuthatches, woodpeckers and finches. I made this picture in the sweet chestnut belt, which is about 1200 m above sea level, when the chestnuts had fallen and the remaining leaves were turning brown and yellow.
