This painting was made upon the kitchen table while I was staying at Tregirls Farm, in Cornwall during the winter. There is a track from the farm which passes the pool as it leads down to dunes and a beach. I used to imagine that it was a place full of sprites and fairies so I never lingered long under the alders and willows which overhang the dark water.
