In early summer, before the hay is cut, the small fields around the village of Quarzina abound with many flowers and grasses that are allowed to grow tall and seed before they are harvested and the hay is dried in barns for animal feed. Our neighbour, Ricardo, continues to tend his land this way as generations of alpine farmers did before him.
