I made this painting from my artist’s tent which I pegged out on the moorland between Penzance and Zennor in Cornwall, England. It was a cold winter’s day in January, very windy and with rain showers. The sun came out and made a brief rainbow while I was working.
A ‘quoit’ is also called a dolmen and believed to be part of a burial chamber. Such ancient stone monuments of Europe were left by a well organised culture that travelled widely and l traded axeheads, skins, bronze and ideas across Europe over 3000 years ago.
